My 100 Sticker Designs

My Process
Initially, my first decision was to do 100 nail designs because I like to look at different nail designs. I connected the months of the year in Japan with the finger nail and chose to draw traditional things in the month. I looked up what was traditional in Japan for each month on the internet and found a website, trad-japan.com, which had all the Japanese traditions for 12 months. I wanted to do 10 drawings each month but for this assignment, draw 100 things, I only needed to draw 10 things for 10 months. So, since there are 12 months in a year, I decided to not do July and August because I thought those two months would be similar before I started drawing my design.
Then, I decided to draw things that were typical of each month. For example, in January, there were a lot of objects connected to New Years that I was able to draw. However, depending on the month, there was a range of things I could draw that was traditional in the month. So, in some months I didn’t have enough things to draw that’ll add up to 10. So, I decided to draw things that were connected to the dates in each month, which I was able to find in trad-japan.com. For example, 2/22 is cat day in Japan so I decided to draw a cat. This made my design change from traditional things in the month to a monthly feature of Japan.

When I decided to draw my designs, I started off with a paper and pencil. But, when I decided to color my drawing, I decided to scan my design so I can color it on my iPad.

When I finished with my 50 designs, I was given a comment that I wasn’t doing much with the finger in my design and was given the option to drop the finger so the design wouldn’t be a nail design. Taking this comment into consideration, I decided to change my design from a nail design to a sticker design because I wanted to drop the finger but still wanted to have the oval shape I used for the nail. So, in the end, I have created 100 sticker designs.

When I was creating my website, I decided to color code the title background for each month so my learners can immediately understand that they are viewing a different page from what they have been viewing previously. I chose the colors based on how I would associate color to each month. For example, in January, I chose the color gold or very strong yellow because in January, I see a lot of golden decorations and January is the first month in a new year so I thought first equals gold.
